Goat cheese and pizza for her birthday

It’s my dog’s birthday today ๐Ÿ˜€ Nefnef turns 3. How time flies ๐Ÿ™‚

She loves goat cheese and pizza, so she’s getting some today.

I’ve learned the hard way years ago that you should give people what THEY really want, and not what YOU (or I) personally like or think would be good for them.

Is pizza good for my dog? Absolutely not. But she gets it only once a year.

You might be wondering right now…

How is this related to writing?

It’s exactly the same when it comes to writing nonfiction. You have to give your readers what they want. Not what you want, and not what you think is good for them.

I’m certain of this. When I wrote for IDG Books Denmark, I told them I wanted to write a book about podcasting. They said, there’s no market for that. I wrote the book anyway and self-published.

They were right. Lesson learned.

Give people what they want.

But what if they want topics you know nothing about?
